NK Vortex, whose real name is Gradwell Mathebula is an Afro-Pop and RNB artist from South Africa’s tropical and green Province, Limpopo. The 21 year old’s music career started back in 2009 as he had an opportunity to work with Mike Chauke, who was his producer and beat maker at Mike Production. “My first single was Vafana (boys),” he says. Gears turned out to be a bit of a challenge when his producer (Mike) set off from the music industry, which led him into pausing his music career. “It was difficult not having him as my producer and I had not thought of any way forward,” he says. Vortex tells Empowered Youth that he then met Nichol in 2012 and they embarked on a journey together with Charlie Tall at Burning Records. It was unfortunate that the studio stopped operating in 2013 after a loss of equipment and Vortex was left with no plan any further.

It was in 2015 when he met Hetisani and they started working together. Having the hardworking and dedicated Hetisani, songs like “Why I should not” were produced and people recognized Vortex because of the hit track. “Hetisani produced many of my songs that were not taken seriously, songs like “Ndzixikumile”. Lucky, known as LKB also contributed towards the making of the song,” he says. “My victory of living a dream came as I met one of the Daniel brothers associate, Ntwanano. He produced one song for me which became a hit and title track for my first album,” He adds “I gained more fans and I became very confident that my career was expanding upon greater levels”. Mathebula’s first album with 10 tracks was released on the 4th of November 2017 under BNB Media SA with “Much Money” as a producer and Hetisani as the beat maker of the album. “I am much honoured to have had such great opportunity to work with great people with exceptional skills,” he says. Vortex is currently working on his second album and is set to be released on the 4th of November 2018. Asked about his release date, Vortex tells Empowered… The 21 year old Gradwell is one of the determined and talent driven young individuals respecting their talents.
