Ramaphosa takes his cam­paign to Jozini

ONE of the front run­ners for the ANC top job, Deputy Pres­i­dent Cyril Ramaphosa took his elec­tion cam­paign to the ru­ral far north re­gion of KZN.

Known as ‘CR17’, Ramaphosa ad­dressed his sup­port­ers at the Ez­ibuk­weni Sports­field in Jozini on Sun­day, af­ter vis­it­ing His Majesty King Good­will Zwelithini at his Royal Palace KwaNon­goma.

He do­nated cows to the king and asked for his bless­ings and in re­sponse the king wished him well in his cam­paign, and cau­tioned that Ramaphosa’s visit must not be mis­in­ter­preted.

This was Ramaphosa’s first visit to the far north re­gion and, ac­com­pa­nied by for­mer KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu and for­mer KZN MEC for Ed­u­ca­tion Peggy Nkonyeni, he made clear that he was ready to lead the ANC af­ter its wa­ter­shed 54th Na­tional Con­fer­ence to be held in Midrand, Gaut­eng, which takes place from 16-20 De­cem­ber.

His ad­dress fo­cused on the ideals and teach­ings of for­mer ANC’s long­est serv­ing Pres­i­dent Oliver Regi­nald Tambo, un­der the theme ‘Let Us Deepen Unity.’
