SAPS snag sex of­fend­ers

THE SAPS Fam­ily Vi­o­lence, Child Pro­tec­tion and Sex­ual Of­fences Units in KZN ar­rested 353 sus­pects for sex­ual re­lated cases dur­ing De­cem­ber.

KZN Act­ing Pro­vin­cial Com­mis­sioner, Ma­jor Gen­eral Bheki Langa, said mem­bers man­aged to se­cure a num­ber of con­vic­tions for crimes di­rected against women and chil­dren, and saw eight ac­cused handed life sen­tences, with other sex of­fend­ers be­ing sen­tenced to more than 270 years be­hind bars.

‘These ac­cused were con­victed for var­i­ous crimes such as rape, mur­der, as­sault with in­tent to do griev­ous bod­ily harm, child pornog­ra­phy and child aban­don­ment.

‘We will con­tinue with our op­er­a­tions to make sure that those in­volved in such crimes are brought to book and face the might of the law,’ Langa said.
