A BRAZEN assault on two unsuspecting locals took place in Empangeni last Friday afternoon.

The victims, who did not want to be named, were attacked and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at a shop in Addison Street.

According to police, they withdrew a sum of cash from an ATM before entering the store when three armed suspects approached and assaulted them.

The assailants, using their guns, hit the victims on their heads before grabbing their money and fleeing the scene in a Mercedes-Benz.

King Cetshwayo Cluster police spokesperson, Capt Mbongeni Mdlalose, urged the public to be vigilant when withdrawing money at ATMs.

‘Always look around for people who may be watching you and pay attention to any kind of suspicious activity.

‘We are approaching the Easter weekend and people will tend to carry a lot of cash with them.’

Mdlalose said a case of common assault and robbery has been opened and will be investigated by Empangeni SAPS.
