Spec­u­la­tive prices re­leased for Ford’s Ranger Rap­tor

UN­LIKE the SA spec model that will be built at Ford’s Sil­ver­ton Plant out­side Pre­to­ria, the Aussie spec Rap­tor will be sourced from Thai­land and com­mand a sticker price of $74 990 (R691 232), mak­ing it $13 200 (R121 673) more ex­pen­sive than the Wild­trak, and be­low the pre­vi­ous $85 000 (R783 500) es­ti­ma­tion.

De­spite also be­ing more ex­pen­sive than the top spec Volk­swa­gen Amarok V6 TDI Down Un­der, spec­u­la­tion is that the Rap­tor will be cheaper than the MercedesBenz X350d, al­beit with 157kW/500Nm as op­posed to 190kW/550Nm.

The Rap­tor’s pric­ing in Aus­tralia could also re­sult in lo­cal mod­els be­ing less ex­pen­sive than the X-class, which tops out at R818 105 for the cur­rent X250d Power 4x4 AT flag­ship.

With the Amarok 3.0 TDI Ex­treme com­mand­ing a sticker price of R791 300 and with a 190kW vari­ant slated to ar­rive next year, ex­pect the Rap­tor to be priced at be­tween R800 000 and R850 000, al­though at this point, the es­ti­ma­tion is
