Non-alcoholic wine and bubbly
These can be a bit tricky, because there’s no escaping the fact that they’re basically grape juice in a misleading bottle. But one of the best ‘wines’ we tried was Inah Superior Grape Juice, made from 100% Shiraz grapes, which somehow seemed to make it less sweet.
Van Loveren, Zari and Caprice all have good fizz options. The trick is to try to keep away from the doux, because they’re all naturally sweet anyway. We particularly liked the Van Loveren Papillon White. Deep amber and bursting with fruit, Pimm’s No 1 is synonymous with summer. Try this non-alcoholic version: Mix together equal parts ginger beer and chilled black tea. Add ½ teaspoon balsamic vinegar and ½ teaspoon dark, soft brown sugar. Dilute to your taste with a mixture of lemonade and soda water, and add fruit and ice.
Cheers to a sober month! ✤
