SERIAL, SEASON 3
Serial was one of the first shows to put podcasting on the map. While the first and second seasons focused on an individual in a sticky situation, the third may be the best one yet. It takes you into a justice centre in Cleveland, Ohio – one of the most racially divided cities in the US – and each episode focuses on different people and aspects of what happens there: from criminals and victims to cops and judges.
I never knew I could be so interested in the law and justice, but Serial always finds a way to make any topic relatable and easy to understand, and it presents fair and accurate journalism – the kind that reminds me why I wanted to be a journalist in the first place. They talk unjust loopholes in the law, structural racism and #BlackLivesMatter. You’re sure to feel uncomfortable, upset – and fired up, but importantly, more educated about both sides of the coin: the citizens and the powers that be. – Caroline
