THIS YEAR’S OVERALL WINNER, Standard OST/Stockbroking, also won our maiden award in 2010. It won again in 2014 and 2016, finishing second every other year. That is testament to its enduring quality and its agility, despite being such a large organisation, in being able meet the changing needs of clients. Its all-round excellence is reflected in the high scores in all categories in the attached table.

The group’s excellence is also recognised by peers. Intellidex asks brokers which of their competitors they rate as the most successful, and Standard received the most mentions in that as well.

Standard caters exceptionally well for all client archetypes. Together with Iress, it has launched a new trading platform, Viewpoint, which received favourable ratings from clients, and the Standard OST Community, introduced at the beginning of the year, allows traders and investors to engage with the bank and each other.

The bank has an offering for clients managing their own portfolios, and a full discretionary service. These offerings are available for local and offshore markets.

Many clients are actively trading CFDs. SBG Securities acts as the primary CFD agent, but Standard Bank itself also writes CFDs. Each transaction is fully hedged with JSE positions and 28% of clients say they are engaged in some level of short trading.

Clients are pleased — they say service is affordable and accessible.
