Mining Equipment Manufacturers of SA (Memsa) aims to position the country’s mining capital goods, components and product manufacturers as a cost-competitive, innovative and transformative industrial cluster that is the preferred supplier to the local, regional and global markets.

“Formally established in 2016, Memsa is a cluster organisation operating nationally with 17 members across the country that provides a voice for the SA mining equipment manufacturing industry, and serves as a point of liaison for government and the private sector,” says CEO Paul Jourdan.

“Located within the Mandela Mining Precinct, Memsa constantly works to leverage collaboration with partners in the mining research & development space.”

Jourdan says the African Union’s Africa Mining Vision emphasises the need for member states to build their minerals backward linkage sectors (inputs into mining) and, in order to realise this, also recognises the criticality of investing in the knowledge linkages. “The department of trade & industry’s Resource Capital Goods Development Plan study indicated that the formation of an industry cluster would be key to promoting
