BEE: Nil return for the unemployed

Finweek English Edition - - Letters - J R RUWERS

MS JEKWA’s article “Pigment Premium” (1 February) is thought provoking. Although nearly all jobs are reserved for blacks, the unemployed, both black and white, have received no benefit. What is the reason for this nil return? It’s obvious that black empowerment kills all incentive to work. Non-racialism should replace it, so that all skin colours are entitled to work and enrichment. Rewards must be pro rata to the work done. A system of bonus payments should be given for performance rendered. The bonus must be sufficient to motivate the worker to surpass himself.

In spite of poverty, India and China show how diligent and disciplined workers can combine with capital to create the world’s new great powers.

However, SA has two things to fear: One is that the politicians’ greed and gravy trains can swallow up all growth. Secondly, the explosive and uncontrolled population growth plus illegal immigration will increase evil, conflict and rampant crime.
