FRANCOIS GETS LAYED FORMER SPRINGBOK rugby captain Francois Pienaar apparently doesn’t understand that a “yorker” in cricketing parlance isn’t a small dog, or that a maiden isn’t a young lady. Or so the new Lays chips TV ad campaign by Net#work BBDO would have us believe. In a series of eight spots, cricketers Herschelle Gibbs, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers and Makhaya Ntini educate him – but he’s more interested in eating their chips. VELOCITY’S EMPOWERMENT DEAL TELEVISION PRODUCTION company Velocity Films has entered into a black empowerment deal with Mamawood, a company coowned by Oyama Mabandla, the executive chairman of the Langa Group (a corporate investment company) and Vodacom, and Nthopele Mabandla. Mamawood now holds 26% of Tenacity Films, which trades as Velocity Films and Freshwater Films. One of the most awarded production companies in Africa, Velocity produces TV commercials for the world’s leading ad agencies.
