Shilowa’s State of the Prov­ince ad­dress

WHAT HAP­PENED| IN HIS ad­dress to the prov­ince, Gaut­eng Pre­mier Mb­haz­ima Shilowa pledged to re­dou­ble ef­forts to re­duce crime by es­tab­lish­ing a R600m world class po­lice emer­gency re­sponse cen­tre that would use satel­lite track­ing de­vices to mon­i­tor of­fi­cers.

WHAT THE OTH­ERS SAID THE CIT­I­ZEN said: “…he (Shilowa) struck a re­spon­sive chord by mak­ing the sim­ple ac­knowl­edge­ment that down­ward trends in crime sta­tis­tics are of lit­tle use if peo­ple feel un­safe.” The Star praised Shilowa, say­ing: “Un­like his se­niors in na­tional Gov­ern­ment, who have of­ten tended to dis­guise their in­ten­tions in well-mea­sured and po­etic state­ments, Shilowa was un­equiv­o­cal this week.”
