Wealth or politics?

Finweek English Edition - - Letters - JR RUWERS

YOUR REPORT headlined “Botha makes billions” (15 March) was an eye-opener. How can such talent be allowed to leave our land? We need Roelof Botha’s flair for creating wealth rather than the dubious value of affirmative action that the Minister of Finance claims is so sacred.

Manuel is South Africa’s only trustee who’s responsible for protecting and preserving our nation’s wealth and welfare. But by preaching politics he bypasses his prime duty as a trustee. Taking from the rich doesn’t help the poor but destroys all incentive to work and produce. It weakens both rich and poor.

US President Abraham Lincoln inspired his nation: “You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man’s initiative and independence. You cannot help by doing for them what they should do for themselves.”

Botha generates billions but Manuel dis- sipates it all. What do the people want? Wealth or politics?
