IN A CROWDED and fiercely com­pet­i­tive mar­ket, LG sells a third of all large (more than 26 inch) LCDs in South Africa and has cor­nered over 50% of the mar­ket for plasma dis­plays. The South Korean man­u­fac­turer is also the first to mar­ket an LCD dis­play – dubbed the Time Ma­chine – with a built-in dig­i­tal video recorder.

The 42-inch 42LC2RR (also avail­able in 37 inch) is a great-look­ing dis­play with a shiny, pi­ano-black fin­ish. Man­u­fac­tur­ers are in­creas­ingly tak­ing care with the look and de­sign of the TV it­self, so that it doesn’t de­tract from the rest of your liv­ing room dé­cor. Here LG has def­i­nitely suc­ceeded. The DVR can record up to 40 hours of stan­dard TV broad­casts and has a live TV pause func­tion.
