The greener the better

WHAT HAPPENED GREAT PLANS have been announced in Parliament regarding the direction in which Government plans to steer SA’s national climate strategy. The Cabinet has instructed the Finance Department to investigate a carbon tax for the country, with the implication that companies that release large amounts of carbon dioxide in their manufacturing processes will have to pay for the environmental damage they cause. BEELD said one of mankind’s responsibilities is to rule over the earth and consequently leave the environment in the best possible state for generations to come. Action must be taken against those who disregard that. Die Burger said no tax is popular but the climate strategy plan is a step in the right direction. Business Day said companies must have the will to change, but so far there’s been little evidence of that happening.
