JUST 18 MONTHS AF­TER it was fired by OMD (its me­dia agency), cell­phone net­work op­er­a­tor MTN has parted com­pany with its re­place­ment agency, Me­di­aCom­pete, and moved on to yet an­other, MindShare. Though the part­ing is of­fi­cially “am­i­ca­ble” and by “mu­tual agree­ment” MTN ex­pects to “gain added value and ben­e­fit” and achieve “op­ti­mal lev­els of ser­vice de­liv­ery” by mov­ing the ac­count. Many me­dia watch­ers see it as an­other in­di­ca­tion that MTN is a dif­fi­cult – de­mand­ing? – client. Me­di­aCom­pete re­tains the busi­ness out­side SA.


THE BILL­BOARDS AP­PEAR to be trans­par­ent but are clev­erly painted to blend with the back­ground and give the im­pres­sion that Bat­man is leap­ing off a build­ing, a me­te­orite is crash­ing to earth or a ptero­dactyl just hap­pens to be pass­ing by. It’s a new out­door cam­paign by McCan­nErick­son for Nescafé Clas­sic, each il­lus­trat­ing a Nescafé mo­ment. Look for McCann on the win­ners’ podium at the next out­door ad­ver­tis­ing awards.
