WHAT HAPPENED NORMAN ARENDSE’S resignation from Cricket SA and the International Cricket Council was received unsympathetically by the media. Arendse’s reason for his resignation, that his “enemies” in SA cricket are involved in underhand schemes because they’re supposedly opposed to transformation – was taken with a pinch of salt. He was better known for his controversial unilateral decisions than his managerial ability, it was reported. RAPPORT said Arendse’s resignation wasn’t at all as earthshaking as he seemed to think. Being an official in SA sport is no picnic and Arendse was weighed and found too light. The Citizen said: “Good riddance is the unspoken consensus. It was a case of jumping before he was pushed.”
