THE SERIOUS consequences of SA’s increasing skills shortage in different fields are drawing increasing criticism. Over the past week the media associated the skills shortage with various problems in the judicial system and SA’s water and electricity supply and even the new building that collapsed in Roodepoort last week. BEELD WARNED that the tap water to towns is becoming unsafe to drink and that the Vaal Dam is almost a sewage dump. Business Day said when buildings start collapsing on workers, it’s certainly not time to lower the admission requirements in the engineering, architectural and building industries. Volksblad said competence is more important than colour.
