THE FLUCTUATING markets and exchange rates continued worldwide, with the rand even weakening to more than US$1/R11. In the midst of this uncertainty, American investment guru Warren Buffett offered hope by buying shares in terms of his policy of “be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy when others are fearful”. THE CITIZEN said few South Africans are immune to more difficult economic conditions; that we’re all going to pay more for things and that wealth will be lost. The country’s trade deficit must also receive urgent attention. The Sunday Times said we should also look at the positive aspects of a weaker rand, such as higher export and tourism earnings.
