SABC cans special episode – again
WHAT HAPPENED CONTROVERSIAL CARTOONIST Zapiro slammed the SABC for canning the Special Assignment edition on political satire at the 11th hour for the second time. The documentary is said to feature ANC leaders and examines the evolution of political satire in SA. Included in the spoof is Zuma’s lawsuit against the Sunday Times and Zapiro for publishing cartoons about Zuma. THE CITIZEN said SA’s “rudderless” public broadcaster was floundering as it sought to follow new masters. It said the SABC was failing in its duties and becoming a joke. The Times said the suppression of satire by the SABC and Zuma was contrary to SA’s Constitution. It said without the right to satirise the powerful we will live in a faux democracy.
