MEC resigns over missing car
GAUTENG MEC for agriculture Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko tendered her resignation due to public pressure after the mysterious disappearance of her newly bought official car. The secondhand Mercedes-Benz – worth R929 000 – was stolen the day after it was improperly bought by her husband on her behalf and driven home without insurance or a tracking device fitted to it. THE STAR – which broke the story – welcomed the resignation and said the episode should be a lesson to other public servants. The Citizen equally welcomed the decision and said it was a step in the right direction. It added SA needed that many more such brakes on Government’s gravy train.
