WHAT HAPPENED

NATIONAL YOUTH DAY (16 June) was celebrated countrywide with various events and other activities staged to acknowledge the role played by young people in liberating SA. However, the main concern noted by those who had the privilege to address the country’s young people was the disturbing growth of the unemployment rate among them. THE TIMES said while the previous government admitted to a need to loosen labour laws to increase the willingness of business to take on more workers, the current Government doesn’t seem willing to go that route. As such, we can expect another five years of empty platitudes while young people continue to live on the margin of the economy.
