POL­I­TICS isn’t a realm into which ad­ver­tis­ers usu­ally ven­ture. But the MD of ad­ver­tis­ing com­pany Red Phone has taken the com­pany out on a limb by plac­ing bold ad­verts call­ing for ac­tion against the “Malema Dilemma”. Al­though the ad has ob­vi­ously cat­a­pulted the agency into the pub­lic eye, lead­ing cyn­ics to ques­tion her real mo­tives, the point it that the ads have found over­whelm­ing res­o­nance with or­di­nary South Africans.

Winch­ester says Red Phone’s re­search con­firmed South Africans across the board are “gatvol” with and de­pressed by the na­tional em­bar­rass­ment that is ANC Youth League pres­i­dent Julius Malema. We say viva busi­ness lead­ers who take a stand and speak truth to power.
