COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR-GENERAL MAMODUPI MOHLALA
AFTER DARING TO question her boss – Communications Minister Siphiwe Nyanda – in public and then being unceremoniously sacked by him, Mohlala is preparing for a fight in court. It could be a fight that could hang some seriously dirty laundry out for public viewing. Court papers Mohlala is preparing to lodge are expected to give details about why Nyanda felt he had no choice but to fire his DG. Those details allegedly centre on tenders which, of course, beg some delicious questions about Government processes, ethics and political power plays that are bound to make newspapers headlines for a while. But the question is: What’s Nyanda going to do in the very likely event he has to reinstate Mohlala? As the courts confirmed in the controversial Billy Masethla case, DGs are appointed by President Jacob Zuma and must, therefore, also be fired by him.
