BOBBY GODSELL

Finweek English Edition - - Letters -

UNDER HIS stewardship the organisation, which represents 80 heads of SA’s biggest companies, is proving that its recent promise to be more assertive and vociferous on contentious issues was not an empty one. Godsell has come out strongly against the ANC’s proposed media appeals tribunal, saying it would be a mistake, especially as the tribunal’s proposed structure raises the prospect of a media answerable to political bosses. Godsell acknowledged that the media needs to “look at itself” but hopefully got through to the political powers that be when he pointed out that their tribunal mission would effectively be the death knell of our 16-year-old democracy and of South Africa’s international image.
