head Shameel Joosub has been promoted within the Vodafone group, which owns Vodacom. Joosub will head Vodafone Spain. The Vodacom Group is seeking his replacement as country manager for SA. The move has sparked fresh rumours that Vodafone will soon rebrand Vodacom.

The Mail & Guardian newspaper reported last week that thieves have been stealing cellular SIM cards from Johannesburg’s new “intelligent” traffic lights and using them to make calls. According to the paper, more than 400 of the city’s 600 traffic lights have been damaged. The traffic lights use a cellular modem and system to send and receive information from the Johannesburg Roads Agencies head office.
