Kader Asmal

Finweek English Edition - - LETTERS -

THANKS FOR a great publication. I couldn’t help but think the late Kader Asmal’s quote in the “Hearsay” section of Finweek of 30 June 2011 was either poorly timed or insensitively worded. With memorial services for the late Asmal still taking place I’d have thought the quote might have been pulled or made current: in other words, refer to him as “late” and reword the sentence “…who is campaigning for…” to “who campaigned for…”

Having been a very high profile politician I wouldn’t expect such an error to “slip between the cracks”. I can only think it was a timing issue, but would have thought you have ways of dealing with last-minute issues. Finweek is printed on Wednesday evenings. The issue of 30 June was being printed on 22 June when news broke that Professor Asmal had passed away. –
