Biased word count

Finweek English Edition - - LETTERS -

AS AN EDITOR I think you should have been more balanced with your cover story (14 July). I counted more “ANC” words in it than any other political party, if any other were mentioned. There was no mention whatsoever of corruption in the private sector. The tax evasion schemes we have recently read about – paraded as tax planning by the educated white collar sector – have cost South Africa more than all the articles and numbers mentioned in your report combined.

How can an article meant to cover corruption in SA end being more about the ANC, Jacob Zuma and Government? I can imagine the realities of rands and cents and the economics of advertising are foremost in an editor’s mind than balanced reporting.
