Fears about ‘soft patch’

IN JUNE THIS year the un­em­ploy­ment rate in the United States rose to 9,2% from 9,1% in May. That was worse than mar­ket ex­pec­ta­tions for the rate to re­main un­changed. Stan­lib’s Kevin Lings says the lat­est em­ploy­ment data will clearly heighten ex­pec­ta­tions that the cur­rent slow­down in the US’s growth mo­men­tum is more than just a “soft patch”. Other in­di­ca­tors have also shown the US econ­omy per­form­ing worse than ex­pected.
