Fears about ‘soft patch’
IN JUNE THIS year the unemployment rate in the United States rose to 9,2% from 9,1% in May. That was worse than market expectations for the rate to remain unchanged. Stanlib’s Kevin Lings says the latest employment data will clearly heighten expectations that the current slowdown in the US’s growth momentum is more than just a “soft patch”. Other indicators have also shown the US economy performing worse than expected.
