UN­EM­PLOY­MENT RATE RISES

Ex­pec­ta­tions that US un­em­ploy­ment would take a turn for the bet­ter took a thump­ing in June, with the un­em­ploy­ment rate ris­ing to 9,2% from 9,1% in May. Last year the US econ­omy cre­ated an av­er­age of 78 000 jobs/month – be­low the 100 000 peo­ple en­ter­ing the job mar­ket ev­ery month. In the first six months of this year the job gains av­er­aged 126 000/month.
