In 2010, China over­took Ja­pan to be­come the world’s sec­ond largest econ­omy with a GDP of $5.8tr, or 9.5% of global GDP. Al­ready the world’s largest ex­porter, many an­a­lysts pre­dict China will over­take the US as the world’s largest econ­omy by the mid-2020s. China’s GDP growth was 10.3% in 2010, but this is ex­pected to slow to be­tween 8% and 9% in the coming decade as the ren­minbi ap­pre­ci­ates and labour costs es­ca­late.
