A train

Finweek English Edition - - LIFESTYLE -

THE BLUE TRAIN is the stuff legends are made of. This moving five-star hotel has housed world leaders, celebrities and nobility. You might not think that a train ride is worth the hoo-ha, but one look at the luxury suite will have you reaching for your platinum card. The ultra luxurious train ride takes you on a 27-hour journey from Pretoria to Cape Town. On the northbound journey, travellers get a chance to visit Kimberley, while the southbound journey includes an off-thetrain experience at Matjiesfontein. The train also travels to Durban and includes one night’s accommodation at Zimbali Lodge.

During the 2013 high season, the oh-so-fancy De Luxe suite will cost R15 155 per person sharing. We know you’ve been looking for something to do with your Christmas bonus. It might seem steep, but the rate includes all meals, drinks and even Cuban cigars. Sadly, French champagne and caviar aren’t included. If you plan on indulging in either, take your wallet.

According to Blue Train Brand Marketing and Communications Manager, Herbert Masheula, the Blue Train is much more than a mode of transport: “The Blue Train is an experience that encompasses unsurpassed luxury, travel and accommodation that includes fine cuisine and the best wines in South Africa.”

We can’t argue with that.
