Dream mergers and acquisitions
Business has been incredibly slow in the mergers and acquisitions (M& A) space in 2012, and 2013 is not looking much better at the moment. However, a group of undergraduate chartered accountant students from the University of Cape Town (UCT) have decided to come to the rescue with some ideas for killer mergers in 2013.
According to lecturer Paul Maughan the students were placed in groups and allocated a listed JSE company. They were then encouraged to engage in negotiations with each other over a month and arrive at an M& A deal that made sense. That meant making sure that the price was right and that the regulatory authorities, including the Competition Commission, would approve. pp
