Telkom has a new CEO following the controversial resignation of Nombulelo Pinky Moholi late last year. Sipho Maseko, former COO of the Vodacom Group, has been appointed as the new Group CEO for Telkom while Brian Armstrong, formerly head of Telkom Business, is now COO.
BlackBerry is on the rebound and shocking analysts with revenues of $2.7bn for the last quarter of 2012 in which the company turned a profit – albeit thanks to aggressive cost reduction exercises – and delivered a return of US 22c per share for investors. The smartphone manufacturer also says it shipped 1m new Z10 devices running its new BlackBerry 10 operating sys- tem, designed to compete with Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.
Google is in hot water in Europe following a decision by privacy regulators as to take coordinated action against the search giant over its privacy practices. France’s privacy watchdog is leading the action that has followed talks between Google representatives and national authorities in Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands,
Spain and the UK. • In recent discussions between Apple and authorities in San Francisco regarding the theft of mobile phones, it was revealed that the next two versions of the iPhone to come were designed with Steve Jobs’ input, predating current CEO Tim Cook. It’s expected that Apple will launch an updated version of the iPhone 5 later this year.
