Telkom has a new CEO fol­low­ing the con­tro­ver­sial res­ig­na­tion of Nom­bulelo Pinky Mo­holi late last year. Sipho Maseko, former COO of the Vo­da­com Group, has been ap­pointed as the new Group CEO for Telkom while Brian Arm­strong, for­merly head of Telkom Busi­ness, is now COO.

Black­Berry is on the re­bound and shock­ing an­a­lysts with rev­enues of $2.7bn for the last quar­ter of 2012 in which the com­pany turned a profit – al­beit thanks to ag­gres­sive cost re­duc­tion ex­er­cises – and de­liv­ered a re­turn of US 22c per share for in­vestors. The smart­phone man­u­fac­turer also says it shipped 1m new Z10 de­vices run­ning its new Black­Berry 10 op­er­at­ing sys- tem, de­signed to com­pete with Ap­ple’s iOS and Google’s An­droid.

Google is in hot water in Europe fol­low­ing a de­ci­sion by pri­vacy reg­u­la­tors as to take co­or­di­nated ac­tion against the search gi­ant over its pri­vacy prac­tices. France’s pri­vacy watch­dog is lead­ing the ac­tion that has fol­lowed talks be­tween Google rep­re­sen­ta­tives and na­tional au­thor­i­ties in Ger­many, France, Italy, the Nether­lands,

Spain and the UK. • In re­cent dis­cus­sions be­tween Ap­ple and au­thor­i­ties in San Fran­cisco re­gard­ing the theft of mo­bile phones, it was re­vealed that the next two ver­sions of the iPhone to come were de­signed with Steve Jobs’ in­put, pre­dat­ing cur­rent CEO Tim Cook. It’s ex­pected that Ap­ple will launch an up­dated ver­sion of the iPhone 5 later this year.
