displaced the Sunday Times as the country’s most influential and most quoted medium? According to Media Tenor, a media monitoring organisation, the answer is yes. Media Tenor compiled a list of the most influential media by analysing 2 422 quotes in various local media during 2012.

“City Press editor Ferial Haffajee’s robust approach to debate regarding ‘The Spear’ and comment on politically laden issues such as transformation, media regulation and SA’s national leadership has seen the paper distinguishing itself from other agenda setters and being increas- i ngly associated with hard- hit t i ng journalism and content,” says Media Tenor researcher Rieyaad Hartley.

Haffajee, who has overseen a major redesign and market repositioning of the paper, says this was “a welcome boost for us in our aim to be world-class and to set the l ocal news agenda”. The Sunday Times has held the number one spot for the past six years.

Media Tenor has been contributing to “objective, diverse and newsworthy reporting” for 20 years by bringing together the parties who both impact on and are affected by the news.
