“Just PCs started 10 years ago out of my f lat af­ter I started buy­ing and sell­ing PCs. I didn’t have a bud­get, I had no cash f low – I grew it from noth­ing and ba­si­cally traded my way up,” Van der Walt told Fin­week en route from a spon­sored con­fer­ence for so­cial en­ter­prises.

A decade ago he was try­ing to make ends meet, but now he’s win­ning awards and has a 500sq m fac­tory in Black­heath, Cape Town. “We have two re­tail stores that we sup­ply in the Western Cape, and we’re busy open­ing up an­other re­tail store. We’ve grown so solidly that I am now look­ing to set up a store in Gaut­eng.”

Just PCs takes used com­put­ers and pe­riph­er­als, and re­con­di­tions them so that they have the same ex­act­ing spec­i­fi­ca­tions that they would have com­ing out of a man­u­fac­turer’s fac­tory brand new. The ma­chines are sold at a very good
