• Sam­sung has an­nounced that its Galaxy Gear smart­watch will be avail­able in SA for R4 600, start­ing in Oc­to­ber. The watch fea­tures a cam­era on the strap and con­nects to sup­ported Galaxy smart­phones for mak­ing calls and stuff. The bat­tery lasts a day. Sam­sung also an­nounced avail­abil­ity of the Galaxy Note 3 ph­ablet with a rec­om­mended price of R9 000, cur­rently avail­able from Vo­da­com and Cell C. • Mi­crosoft CEO Steve Ballmer made an emo­tional last speech to his com­pany’s em­ploy­ees at a con­fer­ence last week. The Mi­crosoft CEO said that the com­pany is “like a fourth child to me”. He wept as he thanked em­ploy­ees and played the song ‘Time of My Life’ from Dirty Danc­ing as he left the stage. Ballmer is es­ti­mated to be worth $18bn – we’d cry too with that kind of stash. It’s ru­moured that Ford CEO Alan Mu­lally is the fore­run­ner to re­place Ballmer when he of­fi­cially leaves Mi­crosoft early next year. • The In­ter­brand Global Brands Re­port was re­leased last week, re­veal­ing that Ap­ple is now the most valu­able brand in the world, knock­ing Co­caCola off the top spot for the first time
