Finweek English Edition - - INVESTMENT - Simon Brown

The import tariffs on chicken have been announced and it really doesn’t help the local industry in the least. Sure, it got increases, but the key area was the bone-in chicken pieces from Brazil and the European Union and it only got an extra duty of 220c/kg for the bone-in cuts and this excludes those coming from the European Union. The bone-in cuts are what is hurting the industry and, while an extra 220c per kg helps, it does not solve the problem as witnessed by the lack of response from the share prices. I am staying away from the poultry companies. simonb@fin
