announced its intention to sell off mobile handset manufacturer Motorola to Chinese f irm Lenovo. The search engine giant acquired Motorola’s handset division for $12.4bn and is now selling it for just under $3bn. The catch is that Google will retain the patent portfolio it obtained from the deal, which follows an agreement with Samsung to share patents in defending the Android ecosystem.

announced decent results for the last quarter and introduced a new app called Facebook Paper. In a bid to remain relevant with hipster iPhone users, Facebook Paper offers a slicker, design-driven interface for sharing content free of the Facebook branding and general nastiness brought to the platform by forgotten friends and embarrassing family members.

is expected to announce the much-anticipated Galaxy S5 ahead of schedule. The new smartphone – a follow-up to the S4 – is expected to be announced in February. We don’t know much more than that, but with competition being as hot as it is in the smartphone space, Samsung will have to pull out all the stops to stay ahead of competitors like Apple and rising stars such as Sony.
