De­spite be­ing de­clared free of Ebola, Nige­ria re­mains on high alert for any new cases of in­fec­tion, says the World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion (WHO), adding that Africa’s big­gest econ­omy had halted fur­ther spread of the virus be­cause of im­me­di­ate ac­tion taken by t h e g ove r n ment a n d o t h e r in­ter­na­tional health or­gan­i­sa­tions.

Jide Idris, the state com­mis­sioner of health for La­gos, says that man­age­ment of the Ebola virus in Nige­ria was pos­si­ble be­cause the coun­try had “over the years pre­pared” for an emer­gency of that na­ture.
