The amount of money that the South African Police Service (SAPS) plans to spend on external communication companies as it plans to improve its image, City Press reported. Two companies have already been appointed – The Communications Firm, whose R9.6m contract will see it provide reputation management, media monitoring and analysis and public relations services, and The Switch Design Company. The latter’s two-year contract is worth R5.4m. Negotiations for a third contract, worth an estimated R10m, are underway. SAPS already has 200 people working in its communications unit.
