The es­ti­mated vol­ume in cu­bic me­tres of dredged ma­te­rial that could be dumped into World Her­itage wa­ters. There is cur­rently no ban on the dump­ing of dredge spoil (the ex­cess ma­te­rial that re­sults from dredg­ing) in the Great Bar­rier Reef World Her­itage Site. The Aus­tralian gov­ern­ment is cur­rently con­sid­er­ing a ban on the dump­ing of dredge spoil in the Great Bar­rier Reef Marine Park. How­ever, the park is slightly smaller than the World Her­itage Site, and does not in­clude most of the is­lands and wa­ters around the ports. It is in th­ese lo­ca­tions that 80% of dump­ing has oc­curred since 2010.
