Finweek English Edition - - CONTEXT -

Between 2001 and 2013, 28m cubic metres of dredge spoil was dumped into the waters of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Site. Current plans could allow dumping of up to an estimated 39m cubic metres more. Dredged up to create new shipping channels, the dumped spoil can smother corals and seagrass, which is food for threatened dugongs and marine turtles.
