Winner: Industry best: Telecoms ranked by engineering students

Head of talent acquisition and staffing at Telkom Wendy Potgieter says: “We believe the engineering students are looking at Telkom as the innovator in the South African telecoms landscape. So we are able to offer them a universe of opportunities within the ICT space and the platform to take their careers to soaring heights.”

Says graduate development specialist Michelle Nicholls: “As an employer, Telkom has a very focused, streamlined bursary programme for students.”

Employer branding specialist at Telkom Thamara Naicker says: “We are moving into the strategic way of sourcing talent. And one particular way we have been leveraging on is our LinkedIn Careers page. We have a strong presence on LinkedIn, showcasing the different careers areas within Telkom and marketing our unique employee value proposition. We position ourselves as One Telkom, a united team with a strong heritage, clear values and a compelling purpose, contributing meaningfully to our nation’s success.”

Telkom looks for individuals with expert, specialised functional experience to meet the job requirements. Although qualifications are important, the company goes beyond academia, and select candidates that are forward-thinking, innovative, solution-orientated and that put the needs of the customer first. •••
