The world’s billionaires
magazine published its annual list of billionaires, which lists the world’s wealthiest individuals. This year, counted 1 826 billionaires around the world, including seven South Africans. In total, the billionaires were worth an estimated $7.05tr (R83.15tr), up from $6.4tr (R75.1tr) in 2014. The average wealth per billionaire is $3.86bn (R45.55bn).
Johann Rupert, South Africa’s richest man with an estimated net wealth of $7.3bn (R86.17bn), ranked second on the continent after Nigeria’s cement and flour mogul Aliko Dangote. Only three South Africans – Rupert, Nicky Oppenheimer and Christo Wiese – made the top 10 list of richest people on the continent.
