The earn­ings (R15.6bn) of Citadel hedge fund manager Ken­neth Grif­fin in 2014, mak­ing him the top earner in the sec­tor, ac­cord­ing to In­sti­tu­tional In­vestor’s mag­a­zine. Grif­fin (46), who started his ca­reer by trad­ing con­vert­ible bonds out of his room at Har­vard, was fol­lowed by James Simons at Re­nais­sance Tech­nolo­gies, who took home $1.2bn (R14.4bn), and Ray­mond Dalio, who runs Bridge­wa­ter As­so­ciates, the world’s big­gest hedge fund, who earned $1.1bn (R13.2bn). The top 25 man­agers earned a to­tal $11.62bn (R139.8bn) in 2014, ac­cord­ing to Al­pha.
