THE GOOD

Finweek English Edition - - IN BRIEF -

Hats off to the Johannesburg Metro Police for finally cancelling 6m traffic fines, valued at about R1.35bn, that did not comply with the legal requirement that fines be sent by registered rather than normal mail. This follows a report by the Public Protector and pressure from Justice Project SA. It means that no further action will be taken to enforce payment of fines issued between 1 April 2009 and December 2012, starting with the prefix 02-4024.

“So far, I have been wrong on interest rates... It is so hard for me to believe that you can drop money from a helicopter and not have inflation, but we haven’t.”
