THE UGLY

Finweek English Edition - - IN BRIEF -

SA reported its highest unemployment rate since 2003 in the first quarter of the year, with 5.5m people, or 26.4% of the workforce looking for, but unable to find work. While a new master sample was used, which influenced the data, the reality is that millions of South Africans remain without jobs. The expanded unemployment rate of 36.1%, that includes people who are not actively looking for work, means 8.7m people who are able to work are not employed.
