nav­i­gate their way through dif­fer­ent load-shed­ding sched­ules so they de­cided to de­velop an app that would make life eas­ier.

“The sched­ules are just so con­fus­ing. I was sit­ting at the of­fice fig­ur­ing them out for my­self and I just thought, there must be a way to au­to­mate this in­for­ma­tion and send it to ev­ery­one to make it sim­pler,” says Wells.

Maritz and Wells, who have full­time jobs as app de­vel­op­ers, ini­tially cre­ated their app for f un. But with 126 000 down­loads cur­rently, t he name i s not t he only t hing t hat ’s at­tract­ing users. The app is sim­ple to use – you down­load it, en­ter the area you need no­ti­fi­ca­tions for, then wait. Soon you re­ceive no­ti­fi­ca­tions of when load-shed­ding is sched­uled to start in your area. The app warns you hours in ad­vance and you can also check for pos­si­ble load-shed­ding for the next three days.
