The most re­cent Africa At­trac­tive­ness Sur­vey showed a strong resur­gence of FDI into North Africa since the Arab Spring in 2011 with Morocco and Egypt as the big­gest win­ners.

On the other hand there has been a decline of FDI in the “hub economies” of Nige­ria, Ghana, Kenya, An­gola and South Africa, although the lat­ter is still the top des­ti­na­tion for for­eign in­vest­ment with 121 FDI projects.

As for the rest of Sub-Sa­ha­ran Africa, in­vest­ment in­flows into Mozam­bique and Ethiopia have been on the up in the past year. With its rich nat­u­ral gas de­posits Mozam­bique has be­come the fifth-largest re­cip­i­ent of FDI projects in Africa, no­tably from Por­tu­gal and Bel­gium.

An­other r ising star is Ethiopia, which is cur­rently Africa’s fastest­grow­ing econ­omy and has the con­ti­nent’s sec­ond-largest pop­u­la­tion. The coun­try
